Did everyone see the new FT merchandise that was before the Sabertooth special? At first I was wondering why Juvia instead of Lucy, or one of the other main girls, but then I found out these were bath mittens? So, Juvia being water, makes more sense in this case. ^-^ So cute haha! ^^
I think that the anime added a lot of "obsessed Juvia" comedic filler that reinforced her image as a stalker and fangirl. That may be why some people--especially those who've only seen the anime--are so anti-Gruvia. :(
I completely agree. I mean, even during the filler arc, and as recently as the GMG, they were, and still are adding “stalker Juvia” moments. It’s frustrating, because Mashima himself hasn’t had her doing anything like that in ages. Not to mention that they also continue to add more Juvia delusions, and have things like the “love potion” episode. I know it’s just for laughs, but it’s not a true representation of who manga Juvia is, and messes around with the dynamics of her character’s growth, and her development with Gray and the rest.
For example, Juvia did NOT call Lucy love rival in the Naval Battle (in fact, she hasn’t addressed her as such since she first joined FT), and yet the anime version had her doing so. I mean, really? Again, I know it’s just for comedy, and to fill out the episodes, and sometimes I like the additions (like in that very same episode, where we had Gray reflecting on his talk with Erza about Juvia’s feelings), but not when it contradicts a character’s progression. As you rightly said, it’s giving anime-only viewers the wrong impression.

You’re all welcome
It’s 2014 why do people still use “Juvia only stalks Gray and Gray doesnt care about her” as an excuse for hating gruvia
…by principle, I never edit Mashima-sensei’s own drawings
but i really couldn’t help myself on this one
I’m sorry Mashima-sensei for crappily adding onto your beautiful drawing
